Nelson Mandela University NSFAS Online Application
Prospective students who applied before the closing date of 30 September to study at Nelson Mandela University are urged to apply for National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) loan funding before the closing date of 30 November.
This is regardless of whether they have yet heard from the University on the outcome of their application or not, as the NSFAS process runs separately to the University’s own processes.
No applications for the loan funding will be considered after 30 November.

The University wants as many financially-challenged and academically deserving students to take advantage of the loan funding support so as not to miss out on the opportunity of studying further.
The same appeal goes to those students who may not have been successful with their request last year. Apply now.
Please urgently go to www.nsfas.org.za or visit your nearest National Youth Development Agency’s offices to pick up a hard-copy form. The Port Elizabeth branch is adjacent to City Hall in Kwantu Towers. These forms have been bar-coded so that prospective NSFAS applicants can track the progress of their application.
Those who already have NSFAS loan funding, however, need not apply again.
These are the admission status codes that you may have seen when quering your application:
AR = your application has been received and you will be notified of the outcome of your application in due course
WO = your online application has been submitted and you will be notified of the outcome of your application in due course
ND = your application cannot be considered as documentation is outstanding. Please submit as soon as possible
WA = your application is being reviewed by the admissions office and you will be notified of the outcome of your application in due course
T = you have been referred to write an access assesment test – please call 041 504 2918 to book
TO = you have been referred for testing – please bring a copy of your ID and latest school results along with you
DT = you have been referred to write an access assesment test – please call 041 504 2918 to book
A = your application has been referred to the academic department for possible selection
R = your application has been referred for further selection

NSFAS provides financial aid to South African students using funds provided mainly by government departments and public entities. NSFAS provides billions in loans and bursaries to students at public FET colleges and universities.
Some facts about the NSFAS loan
- NSFAS loans are for students who are financially needy.
- The size of the loan is determined by a means test as prescribed by NSFAS.
- Only students who are South African citizens and accepted by NMMU to do a first tertiary qualification (full-time), and students who are intending to register for specific post-graduate courses i.e. PGCE
First years and senior new applicants

Continuing NSFAS students
If you are a returning student funded by NSFAS , you must not apply again. NSFAS has your details and will get your results from the university.
If you are a returning student who did not receive NSFAS funding , please apply online.
